Liverpool have today confirmed that their u23 centre back Nathaniel Phillips has today joined VFB Stuttgart on loan for the 2019/20 season.

He is the second u23 centre back who has moved to Europe today after George Johnston made a 300k move to Feyenoord earlier on.

Phillips has also signed a new long term contract before moving to the Bundesliga 2 side which shows that Liverpool still do see his long term future at the club, however with Joe Gomez, Virgil Van Dijk, Dejan Lovren, Joel Matip all ahead of him in the pecking order he would have found first team minutes extremely difficult to come about.

The u23 side has now lost Phillips, Johnstone and Conor Masterson from last seasons defence so it is now likely that new signing Sepp Van Berg will be spending the majority of the season playing for the u23’s while training at Melwood with Jurgen Klopp and his staff.
