During a Q&A on Irish radio station Off The Ball ex Everton & Irish international Kevin Kilbane has admitted that his biggest regret was not joining Liverpool in the summer of 1999.

Kilbane who was at West Brom as a left winger and had played 10 times for the Republic of Ireland including a World Cup play off against Turkey and was looking for his next move.

He said of the time that the then manager Gerard Houllier had discussed the move with his agent but because he could not promise him game time and instead would be viewed as one for the future the move did not happen and instead he went on to Sunderland for £2.5m.

Later on in his career Kilbane would go on to play for Merseyside rivals Everton playing over 100 times in three seasons and can now be heard on the Irish airwaves as a co-host of sports show Off the ball along with appearances on BBC’s Match of the day.
