We all remember the famous scene at the end of where FSG principle owner John W Henry met with the Billy Beane played by Brad Pitt, as Henry tried to convince Beane to leave Oakland and join Boston Red Sox.
Now according to the New York Post this time the roles look to be reversed as Beane and his newly formed RedBall Acquisition Corp look to invest into FSG owned Liverpool F.C.
“Liverpool has to be their primary target,” said one sports banker. “It’s a top brand and a huge club. It’s also looking for a deal like this.” via NYP.
Forbes recently valued Liverpool at just over $2bn and according to reports Billy Beane is interested in taking a minority stake of 20% which would be a $400m investment into the club.
FSG have openly discussed their willingness to take on a minority stake holder in the past and between the loss of earnings from covid and their good relationship with Billy Beane this move would make sense for all involved.
